Premium 150 improvements

One way to improve the premium 150 is of course an upgrade to the 300 system. However, this is quite expensive therefore I present another possibility.

As a first step I see the replacement of the standard speakers in the corners of the car as a necessity for a good sound quality. Follow the description of the menu "Improve Premium 70". As a second step, I recommend the purchase of two good 6 "by 9" speakers (for the shelf), an additional amplifier and a so called "high to low level" converter. A speaker 10 cm diam in place of the center speaker is optional. Of course you also have to buy some extra materials:

A plus and minus cable (as required by the amplifier), a cable of sufficient length, a fuse holder with a fuse (in accordance with the requirements of the amplifier), speaker cable, power cable, ground cable, crimp connectors for power and a connector for the ground cable, tape and straps.

Make sure that before you start your audio is turned off.

Remove the seat as described in point 18 in the manual on Saab Docs. Remove the amplifier and unplug it. The loudspeaker signals from this amplifier will be used for the new extra amplifier. To take care that the output of the original amp will not change a "high to low level" converter will be connected. I stripped the isolation of the needed wires a few millimeters and soldered new wires to the converter. Making mistakes is almost impossible, the wires of the outputs are grouped in pairs.Left min = gray / white
Left plus = green

Right min = gray / white
Right plus = blueDo not use the other wires. Insulate the soldered wires, then plug the connector into the amp and fix the amp at its place. I placed  the converter next to the amplifier and fixed it with Velcro to the carpet. Connect audio cables to the converter output and lead them to the vicinity of fuse box in the trunk. (My cables are under the carpet). Remount the front seat.

Install the 6x9 speakers (can be done from the underside) and lead the wires to the vicinity of the fuse box in the trunk. Stick them with tape iot to prevent them from rattling. At the left side there is a enough space lead them through.

Behind the plate of the airbag cover at the right rear is a bolt, twist and remove the cover carefully. Connect a wire to the brown wire of the antenna amplifier. Lead the new wire to the vicinity of the fuse box in the trunk. The antenna is connected via the brown wire to the on / off from the radio, which we later use to switch the amp on / off.

Install the amplifier at the left side of the rear trunk and drill holes in the trunk lining at the position of the jacks on the amplifier (take care where you can not drill) in such a way that all wires can be connected. If you prefer another place you obviously need to lead all the wires to that position.

Connect the speaker wires to the amplifier (left with left, right with right), connect the negative pole of the amplifier to earth (there is a good connection to the body just below the taillight) and connect the wire to the antenna for the remote on / off of the amplifier (note, do not connect on the positive terminal of the amplifier). Connect the audio cables from the coverter to the input of the amplifier (remember left / right).

Take two pieces of wire for the power connection, connect one piece to the amplifier and the fuse holder (do not insert the fuse yet).

Connect the other power cable to the fuse box to the position in the pictureand to the other end to the fuse holder. Consider, if you have a very high power amp, to connect it straight to the battery (see also the instructions of the new amplifier).

Check if all connections are at the right places, secure cables with straps or tape.

Make sure the radio is off and insert the fuse. Turn on the radio and set your amp to the desired amount of bass and volume.
